Volaris adds Colima to Tijuana network with two weekly flights

The ceremony welcoming Volaris to Colima.

At the ceremony welcoming Volaris to Colima, the low-cost airline’s CCO Holger Blankenstein said: “We recognize the work and support of the Government of the State of Colima, and we are confident that this new connectivity option will help to strengthen the capacity and attractiveness of the Entity in several areas such as economy, culture and tourism.”
  • Mexico’s low-cost airline Volaris has initiated flights between its base in Tijuana (TIJ) on the US border to California and Colima (CLQ) in west-central Mexico. The twice-weekly flights operate on Thursdays and Sundays flown by one of the airline’s 174-seat A320s. Colima’s only other scheduled route is, not surprisingly, to Mexico City (less than 500 kilometres away), which is operated by Aeromar (with up to three daily flights using 48-seat ATRs) and Aeromexico (which operates between one and two daily flights with 50-seat Embraer regional jets). Because of the longer sector length to Tijuana (almost 2,000 kilometres) and the use of larger aircraft, this new service more than doubles the number of ASKs (Available Seat Kilometres) provided at Colima.
